The tragic death of 16 year old Aqsa Parvez from Mississauga, Ontario at the hands of her father who strangled her and her brother now charged with obstruction as he attempted to cover up the Honor Killing is raising concerns with our neighbors to the north that Islam is not a religion of peace but is instead rooted in medieval ethos that treats all women as non-persons unable to make decisions for themselves.
A Montreal Mosque recently posted a warning on its web site that if young girls took off their Hijab, they could be Raped and have illegitimate children. National Post.com December 12, 2007
Friends of the 11th grade Aqsa said that the teenager just wanted to be herself. School officials described the teenager as "...energetic and well liked." A memorial was set up in the school's main foyer and the flag in front of the school lowered in memory of the tragic loss of the young woman.
