Chinese authorities report that 2,183 people have perished from the devastating Qinghai Province earthquake.

Tibetan Lamas and Rescue workers are disputing the death toll reported by Beijing.

The real scale of the tragedy and downplaying of the death toll by Beijing may be a result of Chinese authorities wanting to cover-up
the large scale of the disaster, nearly two years following the catastrophic Sichuan Earthquake in which more than 70,000 people died including the lives of more than 19,000 children in poorly constructed classrooms.
