China's Internet Censorship, How Effective?

China's Internet Censorship may be getting more sophisticated but so are Internet Users.

Internet users at a cafe in Shanghai exploring the web. Today I wrote here that China announced on Monday, that it was cracking down on major websites including search engines Google & Baidu, claiming that they spread pornography and other objectionable material which corrupt young minds.

Translation: China wants to maintain order by censoring information but is this even possible?

Friends of mine in China write to me and tell me that there are many cracks in the Great Fire Wall and as hard as authorities work to plug leaks, new ones spring up.

Thanks to software such as SmartHide.com users can change their
IP Addresses to anonymously browse the Internet.

Free Speech is essential in the pursuit of learning, every thought and idea is not an avenue of incitement, censorship only results in users finding alternative ways to get news and information.
