"Wild Strawberries" Rally Defending Freedom, Democracy & Human Rights
Wild Strawberries Student Movement
Thousands of activists took to the streets defending human rights in Taiwan today, protesting authoritarian abuse by Police last month during the visit by Chen Yun Lin from China. The banner reads "Protest against nation violence."
Student activists, were protesting against the restrictive Assembly and Parade Law in today's demonstration in Taipei. Last week I wrote here has PRC, been stirring up trouble for our friends in Taiwan, with the help of KMT President Ma Ying-jeou ? Does Ma, receive his marching orders from Beijing ?
Former President Li Teng-hui, visited activists from the Wild Strawberries yesterday and promised to help them in their campaign to have the Aseembly and Praade Law amended. Li said that he "understood the students dissatisfaction with the law" and agreed the regulation should be changed.
"Democracy and Freedom were the nations most prized possessions," said Li, "...the true meaning of democracy is that sovereignty rests with the people. The government should not require Police permits to demonstrate."
