Taiwan To Purchase $6 BN Dollars Of Weapons

The Bush Administration plans to notify Congress of that it intends to sell more than $6 Billion Dollars worth of defensive weapons to our ally Taiwan.

A Taiwan Soldier lays a flower honoring those killed during the 1958 bombardment at a ceremony which marked the 50th Anniversary of a battle with China in Kinmen on August 24, 1958

Kinmen is a constant reminder of lingering hostilities between
Taiwan and China which split in 1949 after a civil war.

China fired more than 470,000 rounds on tiny Kinmen Island
for 44 days beginning on August 23, 1958

Protests have taken place in Taiwan in opposition to President Ma's performance and compromises being made on Taiwan's sovereignty during his first 100 days in office.

On August 31 I wrote here that Taiwan's security is vital to the United States. Thousands have marched demanding that more be done to protect Taiwan's Independence.
