Totalitarians Restricting Content & Free Speech
One year ago when users of the Internet in China went to visit the main portals at Shenzhen City, Guangdong they were introduced to Jingjing & Chacha the images of JingCha---The Shenzhen Internet Police, were officially on line when users visit web sites and forums and will see the two images floating on the screen.
"The Internet Police have existed for a long time, this time we publish the images of the Internet Police in the form of a cartoon, the purpose is to let all Internet users know that the Internet is not beyond the law, the Internet Police will maintain order in all on line behaviors" said Director Chen of the Information Center, Internet Security and Surveillance Division, Shenzhen Public Security Bureau---China Digital Times, January 22, 2006
China has required that U.S. Internet providers such as Google & Yahoo should help the authorities restrict access, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Liu Jianchao said, "...China was doing everything possible to stop illegal Internet content, including material that violate social morals...that any foreign companies operating in China should cooperate....this kind of goal is to protect the interests of the general population so this kind of action is fair and reasonable." China Digital Times, February 14, 2006
There are those in the United States that want the government to restrict access and filter Internet content, the Reverend Jim Sutter, American Jihadi Apologist and Blogger at his "Hatewatch Hall of Shame" site has argued in an article entitled What Were We Thinking, January 2, 2008 "...that the United States has now said that it will honor the resolution..." which restricts free speech and violates the 1st Amendment? Oh my...
Actually the United States has not said any such thing and has in fact not ratified the Convention restricting Free Speech, see: "Islamic Bloc Scores 'Defamation of Religions' Resolution at the UN"---Patrick Goodenough, CNS News.com Dec. 20, 2007; "UN moves to kill free speech, passes resolution against defamation of religions"---Robert Spencer, Dhimmi Watch December 29, 2007
In the wacky world of jelly brained Islamic Jihadi Apologist Reverend Jim Sutter who is ready embrace totalitarianism, he has somehow convinced himself that the United States has ratified the 1965 Treaty without Congressional action?
Totalitarians Restricting Content & Free Speech...
As China continues to clamp down and censors free speech and filters the Internet. China has now announced new rules that could block all but a few video sites that may reach viewers. Effective January 31, all on line video outlets must avoid politically or morally objectionable content and obtain a government issued permit to operate in China. MySpace China the "social networking giant" has already practiced some degree of self-censorship. Will YouTube which is owned by Google be willing to censor content to comply with the new Chinese restrictions?
Should Internet Video Sites cooperate with repressive regimes they could face public relations disasters such as Bill Gates who defended China Internet Restrictions in 2006---China Digital Times, January 27, 2006 in the United States the Microsoft CEO, faced a public relations disaster and was pilloried by human rights groups who see the restrictions as a restraint of freedom of speech.
China has developed technology for filtering Internet Content that the government deems sensitive or controversial Reporters Without Boarders refer to China as "the worlds biggest prison for cyber-dissidents."
Cyber Cafes in China are now required to maintain detailed logs of users on line activities and file them with the authorities every 60 days, should a user attempt to access a forbidden site the cafe must disconnect the user and file a report with the authorities, penalties range from fines to imprisonment. Every individual in China that wants Internet access must register with the Police within 30 days. Some key words such as: Equality, Freedom, Justice, Taiwan, Democracy and Human Rights will trigger Chinese filtering systems and block access to content.
As China continues to monitor, regulate, filter and restrict access from outside points of view, establishing complete control over individuals lives to keep them in check, there are some champions of Jihad in the United States such as the Reverend Jim Sutter that are demanding limited Internet access to filter what some people may determine to be objectionable.
It is important for Americans to be ever vigilant, never passive, allowing fear to erode our individual liberties, permitting champions of Sharia law such as the Reverend Jim Sutter, to change our way of life, to appease Islamic Jihadists, that are determined to rule the world.
