William Donohue, President of the Catholic League for Religious
& Civil Rights, claims that Judge Sonia Sotomayor's record has more bright spots than Conservative Catholics, can reasonably expect to get from an appointee of President Obama.
Really?
Yesterday I wrote here that Obama has been mum on details about Judge Sotomayor and her record as an Appellate Ct. Jurist.
William Donohue has been accused of anti-Semitism by Orthodox Rabbi Shmuley Boteach following a statement which he made during a 08 December, 2004 appearance on Scarborough Country. Donohue claimed, "Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular."
In 2004 National Review Publisher Wm. F. Buckley, Jr criticized the Catholic League saying, "...is essentially one man, its president William Donohue."
Even though William Donohue may not be relevant, nor does he speak for all Catholics, the controversies surrounding Judge Sotomayor are very real and must not be so easily dismissed for political expediency.
Why did Sonia Sotomayor use a quote from Socialist Norman Thomas in her Yearbook? Does America really want an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court who admires a Socialist?
