China Traditional Dragon Dance Followed By Riot With Police

People performing the Dragon Dance in China, Beijing today---the Lantern Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the first month of Chinese Lunar New Year, marking an end to Spring Festival.

At least three Police Officers and ten civilians were injured as a riot broke out sparked by angry protesters when authorities attempted to stop the traditional dance, at one point soldiers were called in to quell the disturbance.

The Dragon Dance is believed to bring "good luck, prosperity and nourishing rains" often jubilant with firecrackers, clanging cymbals and banging drums.

Chinese Bloggers have said that the disturbance was as a result of authorities fixation on social stability as the government sees the dance as a threat to social order.
