Taiwan "Wild Strawberries" Student Movement

We thought the authoritarian era has gone away.

We thought freedom of speech has been firmly rooted.

We are so wrong...

It has taken so much hard work to build freedoms and democracy
with the sacrifices made by thousands of the forerunners in the last
half a century. Nevertheless, how easy it is to destroy freedoms and democracy. During the Chinese envoy Mr. Chen Yun Lin visit in the past week, the people of Taiwan had to face the violence from the Police just because they held the national flag, banners, singing
and chanting slogans. The authoritarian regime has come back
and freedom of speech has no longer existed.

As the people were in panic, the non governmental organizations
in Taiwan, have come together to strategize the countermeasure. Meanwhile a vital new force from universities has also emerged to defend freedom of speech.
