Sichuan Memorial's Sadness, Grief & Tears

A resident walks past debris of a collapsed building after paying his respects to the memories of those tragically killed on May 12
100 days since the catastrophic earthquake.

Xinghua Wang and her daughter sift through debris at the home site of a relative killed. Other family members pick through debris as the city was reopened for one day on Tuesday so that people could pay homage to friends and neighbors.

Chinese custom teaches that one should pay homage to their loved ones 100 days after their death.

Wang visited the ruins of the National Taxation Bureau where she had once worked and where 12 of her colleagues perished, "I had to go back and have a look, I was pulled from the building after being buried 73 hours....everything is destroyed. My beautiful hometown is gone."
