New Microsoft Product For Police, Is It Legal ?

Microsoft has introduced the Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor "COFEE" that will be sent to law enforcement agencies
at no cost.

The device contains more than 150 commands which allows computer cops to scan for evidence, remove encryptions for online passwords and search the entire Internet history of a computer.

COFEE has raised privacy concerns and some Attorneys wonder if the technology will hold up in Court ?

John W. Simek, V.P. of Sensei Enterprises said, "Just the mere feature of being on a USB stick means that it will modify the computers registry. When you add a USB drive to a computer it says 'Finding new Hardware' it then adds the necessary updates. All its going to take is for one sharp defense attorney to make a Daubert Challenge and you would have a very tough time using whats on the drive, if its not available for peer review, it fails."
