Iranian Women's Rights Activist Convicted


An Iranian Womens Rights Activists was convicted for actions against national security through the spreading of propaganda and sentenced to one year in prison.

Amir Yaghoubi Ali, said that he was convicted for collecting signatures on petitions to support changing laws that deny Women Equal Rights in Iran. "Changing discriminatory laws will benefit Iranians and will create a fairer social environment," Ali said. "Our call for change is considered by the ruling Islamic establishment as crossing the red lines. Authorities don't want to allow any changes in laws in support of Women's rights, thats why they seek to supress such demands.

Parvin Ardalan, one of the signature campaign leaders said that along with Ali, about 50 Women's Rights Activists have been detained or summoned into Court over the campaign.
