Conservative Group Sues Library In Ohio

Citizens for Community Values have filed a law suit in U.S. District Court, Columbus, Ohio after the Upper Arlington Public Library, denied them the right to hold a meeting.

On February 27 a scheduled meeting called "Politics & The Pulpit" was to be held but was abruptly canceled by Library Director Ann Moore.

The Library has previously scheduled other political and religious themed programs: November 1, 2006 "Bhutan Mysterious Himalayan Kingdom" Bhutan steeped in Buddhist culture. March 18, 2007 Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth; May 20, 2007 Linda Marcadante spoke of her quest of identity in the confusing atmosphere of her family's mixed ethnic and religious heritage.

The Upper Arlington Public Library is no stranger to controversy. In 2007 the Upper Arlington Police were called when a demonstrator was picketing on a public sidewalk near the library. Likewise the Library had notified the Upper Arlington Police to complain about a patron that was using a computer in the library. Police asked the Patron if she had a Library Card.

In 2005 the Library touched off a local controversy by permitting Gay publications to remain available for distribution despite public opposition.
