Democrats Exclude Asian Americans From Tuesday's Las Vegas Debate
Tuesday's Democratic Debate was to have focused on issues of concern to minorities but the Party Promising Change left the Asian American Community feeling ignored.
Mike Vaswani, President of the Las Vegas Asian American Group said, "They forget about 150,000 people that live in this town....we don't ask a lot of government and we give a lot...we want to ask the candidates what they will do to support the Asian American community."
The group complained to the Democrats and a hastily arranged meeting was scheduled at the Chinatown Plaza---a spokesperson for Honda acknowledged that the event was arranged partly in response to complaints about the debate. "The attempts to reach out and recognize the Asian community are appreciated but fall short" said, Mike Vaswani. Las Vegas Review Journal.com January 15, 2008
Asian Americans represent about 8% of Clark County which includes Las Vegas, there has been a 41% growth rate in the community between 2000-2004 according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
