Why Did This Happen?

On a crisp cool wintry day, a plane bound for the United States failed to arrive at her destination.

Suddenly and without warning a plane which was carrying happy excited people vanished from radar and within moments 259 innocent people died.

Only minutes before these happy people full of excitement, stories of adventure and with anticipation on being reunited with family and friends were gone.

Many will never experience the joys of having children and none will ever again know the joy of a gentle hug or know the love and comfort of their family.

Those who are left behind with their pleasant memories, seen those pictures shattered and turn into nightmares of anguish.

Why did this happen?

As the evening turned to night the shock turned to despair---Why did this happen?

Now it is daylight and as the eastern skies turn bright once more the question is again asked, why did this happen?

The seasons may change, the leaves will fall again, winter will again arrive as the snows like from Winter's past but the question goes unanswered, why did this happen?

The entire world suffered a tremendous loss on that crisp wintry day when Pan Am 103 vanished, though many will fail to recognize their loss. All of these happy people offered the world the opportunity for new hope and fresh ideas but we all suffer now and all I can ask is, why did this happen?

Dedicated to and in Memory of Andrea V. Rosenthal, who was a passenger on Pan Am 103 on the 21 December, 1988
