IDF Soldiers light Chanukah candles to commemorate the annual festival---the Maccabees Hero's stood up against Hellenist cultural pressures and Jewish assimilations allied with the Greeks winning a Civil War, returning they rededicated a desecrated temple and the small amount of oil they had for the menorah lasted 8 days a miracle and a sign by G-d of approval and return of miracles to Jerusalem.The IDF Chief of Staff related his memories as a young solidier taking part in a secret operation assisting the Aliyah of the Jews from Ethiopia and reflected on the heroism of today's IDF Soldiers which is no less than that of Maccabees.
