Helen Esfandiari Back to Work in Washington

After being held by the Iranian government for more than 100 days in solitary confinement, this 67 year old scholar of the Woodrow Wilson International Center returned to work today.

While being detained by the Iranian's, Dr. Esfandiari, forced herself to walk and exercise for several hours a day, blocking out thoughts of her family.

On May 8, Dr. Esfandiari was detained while visiting Tehran to see her Mother.

Iran accused Dr. Esfandiari of plotting to overthrow the tyrannical Islamic regime in a soft revolution. The U.S. State Department said that was absurd and demanded the immediate release of Dr. Esfandiari an American citizen. She was mainly questioned about her activities at the Washington Wilson Center, it appeared to Dr. Esfandiari that the Ahmadinejad regime believed that think tanks and foundations were instruments of the United States to carry out a revolution.
