China Regime Bans "Super Girl" To Democratic

China Regime literature and arts 'experts' (a word that may be use a bit too broadly) attended a symposium today, calling for a reduction in entertainment focused television during prime-time because of its evil and corrupting influences on the impressionable young minds that enjoy real talent and a variet of programming.

Li Zhun, former chairperson of the China Federation of Literacy & Art Circles said, "...economic, cultural and service programs should dominate prime time programing and not entertainment shows."

Boring--Forget about what viewers want to watch, make them watch Public Service Announcements all night.

Riiight...

President Hu Jintao, please do tell how that works out for you?

On the 06 June, 2009 I wrote here that free speech is essential in the pursuit of learning, every idea or thought is not an avenue of incitement, censorship only results in the pursuit of creativity in finding cracks in the Great Firewall of China.

Calls to Free Blind China Human Rights Atty Chen Guangcheng...Supporters Videos Posted Online

Blind China Human Rights Atty Chen Guangcheng was released from prison last year and has since been held under tight house arrest, during which both he and his wife Yuan Weijing, have endured beatings and their young child, has been prohibited from attending school.

On the 18 June, I wrote here that a smuggled letter out of China, describes the abuses inflicted upon the young couple at the hands of local authorities during their long and ongoing house arrest.

Chinese human rights activists that have attempted to visit Chen and his family, have been forcibly prevented from entering his village and in some cases beaten.

Activists have campaigned for better treatment of Chen, which has included a call for supporters to submit video appeals that had been posted on YouKu but removed.

Many of the videos have now been uploaded on YouTube, five of them may be seen here additional videos are available here in Chinese.

Brush & Shutter Early Photography In China

Portrait of Li Hongzhang in Tinjian in 1878

Contemporary Chinese photography has received increasing attention both within China and beyond however the origin of the photography in China is not fully understood.

Brush & Shutter Early Photography in China, takes its name from the way that the medium of photography was learned and readily adapted by Chinese Export Painters, who grafted this technology onto traditional conventions.

Representing the work of both Chinese and Western artists, the photographs in this exhibition range from a portrait of a Chinese Family taken in Shanghai in 1859 to unique glass slides of Revolutionary Soldiers in Shanxi Province.

China, Wuhan Forced Evictions Victims Protest

Nearly 300 Chinese gathered outside Wuhan Intermediate Court on 15 March, to protest a lawsuit against Zou Bin, a severely handicapped man.

Zou who is wheelchair bound and cannot speak was accused of causing "intentional injury to a pair of a group that attacked his Mother Zou Houzhen, in an attempt to force her to vacate her apartment.

Locals were incensed by the allegations, particularly given the sensitive background circumstances: Forced evictions inspire deep resentment towards authorities in China.

While 300 had gathered including victims of forced evictions and demolition from elsewhere in the city, only 100 were eventually allowed into the court room. The others kept vigil outside the court house, sharing their doubts about the alleged death and injury that Zou Bin was accused of affecting, as two men forced their way into his mother home attempting to evict them.

Taiwan Former Journalist Bringing Smiles To Dayingpan Leprosy Village Children

Over a decade Zhang Pingyi fund raised, tackled authorities, to set up China's first formal school within a leprosy village, becoming a Teacher, Mother and Friend to Sichuanese Children.

Zhang could never forget the children and 'the emptiness in their eyes' after her first visit to Sichuan & Yunnan Leprosy Villages 11 years ago, she decided to bring them hope through education, even if it meant getting out of her comfort zone and challenging old mindsets.

There are about 800 Leprosy Villages in China which have been secluded and isolated for a long time---its hard for these children to attend formal school because of discrimination.

Despite what her Wings of Hope team accomplished in the Dayingpan Leprosy Village, there is more to be done.

Qian Yunhui "Accidental Death" Sparking Anger

Qian Yunhui holding an award certificate that he received from the villagers at Zhaiqiao, Zhejiang Province.

A Chinese Court ruled on Tuesday that the death of village chief Qian Yunhui, crushed to death by a truck in December was an accident sparking outrage from those who insist that he was murdered for his campaigning over land seizures.

The gruesome 25 December death of Qian has rattled authorities at a time when Beijing is attempting to dampen public anger over a range of hot button issues and official abuses. Qian had demanded compensation for farmers who land was seized to make room for a power station and his death stirred passions after doubt was cast on the official version.
